Please include your watch model, watchOS and Wristshelf versions, what you expected, and what happened. Never send passwords, tokens, private server addresses or children’s listening details.

Getting started

What do I need to listen?

Apple Watch running watchOS 27 or later, a reachable Audiobookshelf server and your own account on that server. Enter its address, username and password directly on the watch. HTTPS with certificate validation is the default. Your server administrator controls library and download access.

Do I need an iPhone companion app?

No. Wristshelf is a standalone watch app. Account setup, library browsing, playback and downloads happen on the watch. Internet access is needed to sign in and acquire audio; already saved audio can play offline.

My server won’t connect.

Check the address and your watch’s connection. Confirm that your credentials work with your server and that it is reachable from your current network. If Cloudflare Access protects the server, ask your administrator for its service-authentication setup. Interactive web SSO is not a substitute for the app’s optional service-credential fields.

Downloads and listening

Why does a download say “Waiting for watchOS”?

watchOS decides when native background transfers run. A scheduled download may wait for connectivity or system resources. Keep the title queued, check available storage and reconnect. Some Cloudflare policies support only foreground downloads; the app explains when you need to keep Wristshelf open.

How do I pause, resume or remove a download?

Open Downloads, select the title and choose Pause Download or Resume Download. Delete Download also removes pending and in-progress work. Saved listening progress is kept. Deleting audio used by the current player stops playback first.

Can I listen offline?

Yes, with saved audio. Wait until a download is marked Available offline before relying on the whole title. Streaming-cache portions may also be available, but a partial cache is not a complete offline download.

How do I keep progress across devices?

Use the same Audiobookshelf account. Wristshelf saves progress locally and attempts to synchronize when connected. If the watch and server positions conflict, use the app’s explicit position choice. Reconnect before switching devices when possible.

How do I seek without accidental jumps?

The main player has skip buttons. Choose Chapters for a chapter jump, or open playback settings to select and confirm a new position. Turn the Digital Crown on the main player to adjust volume.

Does Wristshelf include books or support ebooks?

Wristshelf plays audiobooks and podcast episodes from your server. It does not supply content, and this release does not support ebooks.
